Территория площадью около 22 тыс. кв. км на северо-западе штата Невада и северо-востоке штата Калифорния, в районе Большого Бассейна [ Big Basin]; на месте древнего озера глубиной до 275 м. Здесь сохранились озера, наиболее крупные - Пирамид [Pyramid Lake], Уолкер [ Walker Lake], Уиннемакка [Winnemucca Lake], Карсон-Синк [Carson Sink], создано водохранилище Лахонтан [Lahontan Reservoir] (на р. Карсон [Carson River]). 2 Great Salt Lake Desert
Засушливый пустынный район на северо-западе штата Юта, часть Большого Бассейна [ Great Basin]. Расположен к западу от Большого Соленого озера [ Great Salt Lake], простирается до границы со штатом Невада. Длина 175 км, ширина 80 км. Долгое время район считался труднопреодолимым препятствием на пути на запад; ныне его пересекают федеральное шоссе № 80 [I-80; interstate highway] и железная дорога. На соляных полях озера Бонневилл [Bonneville Salt Flats] расположен автотрек [Bonneville Speedway] (16 км в окружности), где установлены многие мировые рекорды скорости.
